Finding My Way Without Knowing the Language Can Be Tricky

Day 3: So far the weather has been beautiful, in the high seventies and sunny. I was told my driver was available over the weekend, so I planned to take a self-guided walking tour of the city.

My driver speaks no English, so I communicate through his daughter. I arranged to go to the city around noon, but unfortunately they cancelled last minute. Many of the taxi companies are known to take advantage of tourists, so I did not go to the city.

I walked around my neighborhood a bit. The signs are a good example of how different the language is, which complicates my ability to get around. My flat is in a family friendly neighborhood, but four miles from the nearest restaurant and far from attractions. I’m feeling a bit isolated and am looking forward to a tour I booked for Sunday afternoon.
